It was recently announced that Volkswagen would be having to pay up in regard to the dieselgate scandal that broke last September, but now that an amount has been tossed out what would be the best thing to do with all that cash? We look at some options on what you should do. By no means are we making recommendations, but purely just looking at what could be done.
The one thing that made VW owners fall in love with their diesel was the power, the way it drove, and how it all works together. Is that a package that you really want to give up? Did the company lie and cheat the system, yes, but if you aren’t cheating you aren’t trying as the old saying goes. They did get caught, but does it directly affect you and your car?
Many people took offense to the situation and took it out on the local VW dealerships as if they did it. It was not the dealerships fault never was. VW owners tend to be VW owners for years, and tend to stick with the brand. One thing affect owners can do is look at keeping the cash and the vehicle.
Keep the cash, take a vacation, travel, pay off some bills. Even if you get the minimum amount announced in the proposal that is $5,000. That is a lot of money and would give plenty of families a new life as it is not every day do you get half a stack of $100 bills tossed at you.
It is possible to keep the car, get the cash, and buy that diesel project vehicle that you have been wanting to do. Buy an old first gen Ram or whatever your heart desires. If you already have that project this would surely help get it going once again.
Obviously, if you are upside down in your car, drove too many miles on your lease we would suggest following through with the buyback and starting over. If you decide to have VW buyback the vehicle, what would you get next? BMW, Audi, Chevy, and Mercedes-Benz all have diesel sedan options. Just be careful as some Audi vehicles are still involved with the buyback.
When all the smoke clears what will you be driving? Another Volkswagen? Tell us in the comments below!
