Behind The Oil
The DBR 15W-40 Break-In Oil is the latest break-in product out of their lineup. It is designed specifically for high-performance and turbocharged diesel engines. When you’ve just built an engine, you want to make sure that the first oil going in it will lace the interior of the engine with good lubricity for revolutions to come.
We caught up with Driven’s Lake Speed Jr. to get his thoughts on this item and how critical it really is. “In a build like this, it is important to protect your high-performance diesel engine during the most critical moments in its life, the initial break-in,” said Speed. “With this special formulation we’ve developed, your engine will get the protection it needs.”

The break-in process is simple. We will fire the engine for the first time and run it at 2,000-RPM for five minutes. Once these five minutes are up, we will then do our engine overhead changes which will include a hot retorque of the cylinder head studs. We have since set the studs at 150 ft-lbs, but once you fire the engine for the first time, you want to make sure the heat of the engine and cylinder pressure hasn’t backed a fastener off.
