Ram’s “Black Package” Expands to Heavy Duty 2500s and 3500s

2014 Ram Heavy Duty Black“Blacked-out” is something we’re sure we don’t want to experience as a state of mind. But as a state of style, it’s hard to deny that it looks good on Ram’s 2014 lineup. The Black Package, which was introduced at the recent Atlanta International Auto Show, has caused quite an excited stir with Ram fans, so much so that the truckmaker has now expanded the package to include the larger diesel trucks.

One dealership in Killeen, Texas got its hands on a genuine 2500 Black, and currently has it listed for $43,993.

This week, Ram has announced that they will be expanding the trim option to its heavy duty trucks, the 2500 and 3500. Said Reid Bigland, president and CEO of Ram, “Ram has continually pushed the limits of truck design and paved new themes that have been copied by competitors. The Black package on the Ram Heavy Duty is proof that our designers are passionate about trucks and will continue to maintain our trendsetting leadership.”

Aside from the obvious color configuration, Black Package Rams feature a variety of high-tech touches that distinguish it from Ford and GM offerings. A cargo-view camera, the trademarked bedside Rambox, and manual transmissions (for diesels). The suspension comes in either the standard rear coil for 2500s, or with an air bag option for 2500s and 3500s.

Additional features include 20-inch black aluminum wheels, fog lamps, premium bi-functional halogen projector headlights, 15 amber LEDs for the indicators, and 3 amber LEDs for the side markers. The taillights have a black finish with 15 red LEDs and 3 red LEDs for the side markers, while the Parkview rear-facing camera and Parksense parking assist program help the driver get a handle on what’s going on behind him.

Ram is giving the Heavy Duty Black Package a primo price tag, with pricing starting at over $43,000 (including the destination charge), pitting it in roughly the same price range as a Ford F-250 Lariat or Chevy 2500HD LT. Will the Black Package prove profitable for Ram? Or will it become the truckmaker’s black sheep? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
